Our minds are our most powerful tool. If we can't put into practice what we've learned in order to make better decisions, then even a perfect understanding of our brains is only of trivial value.

There are no problems in our world that will be solved by making poor decisions.

It's not all positive. If you dig too deep be prepared for an existential crisis. Also, corrupt and incompetent authorities tend to react violently to accurate information.

Triage Your Information

We are presented with way more information that we could ever hope to verify. I go over a few tricks that you can use to dismiss junk information quickly so you can focus on what has the potential to be important.

I believe that the most effective screening technique is the question "If this were true or false, would it make any practical difference?"

Fallacies

Studying logical fallacies is a waste of time in my opinion. You'll never find them all and their use is not indicative or true or falsehood. There are really only two techniques to mislead: confusing and desire. If a grifter can make others ashamed of admitting that their bull doesn't make any sense or make them really, really want for their information to be accurate (no matter the accuracy,) then their marks will do all the heavy lifting for them.

Why is there so much cruelty and injustice in the world and what can we do about it? I think it comes down to some simple social dynamics.
